How it works

Three taps. Then the map is yours.

Draw

Tap the dashed rectangle and drag over the area you're heading into. The size shows before anything is fetched.

Download

One tap stores every zoom level, from overview to street detail. Interrupted? Retry fetches only what's missing.

Go offline

Flip the switch and the map shows exactly what's on your phone, each saved area outlined. No signal needed.

The official national maps where they are best, OpenTopoMap everywhere else. One layers button switches between them; each map shows where it covers and takes you there. Downloads store the map you picked plus the overlays you switched on.

Coordinates and rescue card

Where exactly are you? Read it out.

Touch and hold any point, or tap your own position, and the app shows its coordinates in every format a dispatcher might ask for, its altitude and the emergency numbers that apply there. Copy or share them in one tap, or open a high-contrast rescue card with call buttons that keeps the screen on.

Works with no signal: the country outlines that pick the numbers are built into the app, and the altitude comes from GPS or from downloaded relief.

GPX tracks & places

Your tracks, from wherever they come.

Share a GPX file to OfflineTopoMap from any app, Mail attachment or Files folder and it appears on the map in its own colour. Tap a track for its card: length, ascent and descent, lowest and highest point. Save any point on the map as a place; a file's waypoints become places too. Tag tracks and places like folders, then search and filter by name or tag. Works offline, of course.

Small app, few buttons, no surprises.

  • Real topographyContour lines, relief, peaks, huts and marked trails from national mapping agencies and OpenStreetMap.
  • One download, every layerAn area stores the map you picked together with the overlays you had on. The downloads list names them, so you know what you carry.
  • Size before downloadTile count and estimated size appear as you draw. Areas over 15,000 tiles are declined.
  • Downloads that finishLock the phone, lose the signal: nothing is lost. Each area knows what it's missing and fetches only that.
  • Move the rectangleTouch and hold a drawn area to nudge it into place before downloading.
  • Your position and headingOne tap follows you; a second tap turns the map the way you face. Location stays on the device.
  • Scale bar and compassA metric or imperial scale. Tap the compass to turn north up, tap again to lock rotation.
  • Storage under controlA list of saved areas with map, size and date. Delete one or all; shared tiles are kept until the last area needs them.
  • Zoom label and detail beyond 17Always know the zoom level; past the source's finest level the map upscales instead of going blank.

Every map in the app is published as open data: by swisstopo, the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), the Federal Office of Communications (BAKOM), IGN France, Germany's BKG, basemap.at and the Province of Bolzano, and by the volunteers behind OpenTopoMap and OpenStreetMap. Relief is computed from open elevation models. OfflineTopoMap is an independent client, not affiliated with any of these providers or with Apple. Full credits are in the licences.
